>Tom, I have to disagree with you on this one. Personally, I believe ethics, morality, and compassion does mean something in the business world. Its just a choice to make of the people who own and run the business. I rather be poorer and have integrity than richer and be a s**t. At the end of the day I can look my kids in the eye.
Jos;
Perhaps I am being too harsh but just remember the negative things business accomplishes. The media really does not say much about “good deeds” that businesses engage in as much as they do the negative. That sounds like a typical media event – report the negative and forget the positive.
With all the bad things reported about accounting practices as an example, the number of companies ripping off customers (energy companies come to mind), companies dissolving 401 K and retirement accounts (why should you retire?) and a long list of other related subjects, I just get sick of “big business”. At age 60 I think I have seen a bit of the business world, and it has not gotten “better”. It has become more sophisticated, and has greater legal representation in the United States than ever before.
Companies do have a hard enough time of existing with governmental controls, regulations, consumer groups and lawsuits. To avoid environmental problems and government regulations many companies move manufacturing to other countries. That solves that problem very nicely – except for the workers in other countries. I had better stop before I say too much.
Tom
