SELECT [ALL | DISTINCT] ...
ALL is the part of the syntax and is opposite to DISTINCT. It's also default value if neither one is specified. So, saying, "select all from..." doesn't deliver a message you want because it doesn't provide any information about what fields were included into query.

That's right, I admit that can be confusing.

I think I should have said that I sometimes say "select todo...", where "todo" means "all" in Spanish. For the required clauses, I would use the English word - as it appears in the syntax.
