I would tend to agree with you. Either a problem with the Excel installation, or a limitation of access, or I would have said the another intance was running but you seem sure that it is not. I was only making a suggestion to see if it actually made a differnce. Superiority over createobject(), no, just a test.
>>>Win XP Pro, Office 2002 SP1 :
>>>oExcel = CREATEOBJECT('excel.application')
>>>fails with 80007005 'Access denied' error.
>>>Virus scanners disabled. DCOM checked to no avail. Any idea. TIA.
>>>PS: It's a Dell computer preinstalled office XP small biz.

>No I haven't tried that. I don't think getobject() has some superiority over createobject() in this situation.
>Even if that works I wouldn't use it :( -explained dangers in the past here-
>PS: There were no instances of Excel running.
>I think this has something to do with installation of office. It works very well on other computers with XP Pro+Excel2002. Program is in use in many type of OS+Office for a long time and this is the first one I'm having trouble with.
