Numerous politicians, including Colin Powell, stated publicly yesterday the U.S. is NOT considering military action of any type with Syria. It is difficult for Syria to claim that no Iraqi leadership have found safe harbor in Syria and be believed when the Iraqi Ambassador to the U.S. just flew there and landed in Damascas. Syria seems to be backtracking and looking for ways to find a common ground and cooperate so it is all just 'political manuevering' now. Or so it seems... Cross your fingers!

>>The Kurds have taken over the oil fields in Kirkuk and Mosul,
>>in northern Iraq. Out of fear that the Kurds in Turkey will be influenced by possible wealth from Kurds in Iraq, Turkey attacks the Kurds in Iraq. Iran also attacks for the same reasons. Soon other nations join and we have a world war.

>I am quite concerned about the possibility of a third world war. I was speculating about a somewhat different scenario: other arab nations go to help Iraq, United States attacks them, and from there, the war continues to spread.

>It doesn't seem likely, right now, that other nations will give significant aid to Iraq, but if the United States attacks Syria - verbal attacks have already begun - or perhaps Iran - the resentment among other nations might grow, and it can still spread into a world war - a war in which there will likely be no winners.
