I figured it was an outside shot, but occasionally it pays to go for an obvious explanation.

Years ago when I supported MS-DOS, I had a call from a guy who was complaining that his PC had recently started running very slowly. After talking to him for about 20 minutes, I said "You know, it almost sounds like the turbo button is turned off." After pausing a couple of seconds, he said "Uh..., thanks!"
