These are older functions, from the times where FoxPro/DOS printed directly to printer. Already with FoxPro/Windows, the problems arised: information was usually sent to the printer queue, and not directly to the printer - and the printer queue was always available.

This explains the logic of the situation, but I have no idea how to detect whether the printer is available.

I do not consider it important either: the printer can be available, but run out of paper in the middle of a report, or the user can turn the printer off. This means that in any case, you have to give the user the option of re-printing a report.
