So true. I'm so consistently amazed by tech people who make decisions on products as if they are choosing favorite artists, poets, or political candidates. I have met a few really really smart and savvy linux people. But I have also met a few really really smart and really un-savvy linux people. Open source may be super-kewl, and may be more enjoyable than boring standard apps, hardware, and software... but in the end, there is a bottom line to business. The risk of being on some new cutting edge, with amazing potential, really needs to be weighed against the reality of business.

Reminds me a little of that TV ad (I can't remember the product) years ago, where a voice-over said "upstairs, a consultant is giving a seminar about thinking 'outside the box...' but you're the shipping manager. Your job *is* the box...."
