>Alex,
>Thanks for helping a newbie with Ole DB. I ran the code you provided and it does indeed work- I get an object but I still cannot get at the data. I suppose I naively thought that this would give me a cursor like ODBC does that I could manipulate. I have VFP 8 - should I use it to try to create a cursor adapter or is there an easy way to get a scrollable cursor in VFP 7. Again,

Have you read the example I pointed?:
http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~UsingADO~VFP

There you'll see sample code on how to create and traverse a RecordSet.

You could also use a CursorAdaptor (see samples here in the UT) and in the VFP8 help.
It can certainly use ADO and create a VFP cursor for you.

IAC you should still learn some ADO. It is good knowledge to have for your professional skillset and you might need it to get data using VB or ASP classic and VBS, or whatever (ASP .Net is different, but you still reap a benefit from knowledge of ADO).
