How do you guys handle entering a date?

For example I want to enter the date of birth. What I do right now when I get the data (SQL passthru) in the select statement that I send to SQL Server I use the convert command to make the date a string composed of 'dd/mm/yyyy' and get rid of the time, so now when I enter the information on the data entry screen it only fits the date but I lose the formatting that foxpro automatically has for date types so I have to do checking to make sure the entered info is on a date format.

How do you guys handle the dates? datetimes are no problem.
