Lots of things are simplified if you create your cursor outside of your report. For instance, you can have a variable sort order.
Don't change all your existing reports. Only use this approach: 1) To solve problems in the reports where you have the cyclic error. 2) New reports. 3) Old reports, only if you want to add functionality - like a variable sort order.
