Zahid;

Rofl!

I am an advocate of testing on clean machines. A clean machine is a hard disk that has been formatted and has an operating system installed to emulate the clients environment. I have been doing this for years and have been successful. I have never considered what interactions a video game, etc. might have upon any of my applications.

Perhaps I will go back to electronics engineering or better yet, just pick up my flamenco guitar and go to a nice spot in Spain to enjoy my life. You have truly struck the sadistic side of my technology thought process. We are destined to failure for all too many reasons outside of the scope of our abilities and what we might consider “reasonable use”.

Well, perhaps we should include a EULA with each application we deliver to a client which says something to the effect, “In addition to my application, only the operating system (defined) is allowed to be on any computer within your organization. No Browsers, e-mail, video games, etc. are allowed”. That should do something but perhaps not what I have in mind! :)

What's that, I.E. Browser is tied to the operating system? hehehehe

>Well remember ... your customers my send e-mails. Your customers may play solitaire. They may write notes in Word, use Excel or MediaPlayer, or surf CNN.com.

>How on earth are you to know that those activities won't break your app unless you try them yourself as part of the testing process?

>>Give me break. I'm in the opinion that these rules apply to another level than we are talking about. You may not use a MSDN licence to:

>>1. Run a business of multiple persons not related to software development or testing.
>>2. Have a large business application run on your SQL server.
>>3. Indeed, run Exchange as an E-mail system for more than one developer.
>>4. Use Office extensively for marketing stuff.
>>5. Use your Windows 2000 server for running business applications (other than you're developing) and as storage of business data.
>>
>>IOW, This whole licensing thing is not a black or white thing. Even, if you're very strict, there are many things you do on your development machine that might violate the license.
