I rulled out AV (Al Doman suggested it may be the culprit, early in the thread) - I disabled AV on my WS and there was no difference. We do not have AV on the server.
What do you mean by "instance opening"? In the thread, one of the main questions is why DO FORM and MODIFY FORM behave differently.
You mention "client", so I asume it is DO FORM - on our LAN it is always fast, never a problem.
