I am only too aware that the transportation of the FPW code is a big mess, but it is just an intermediate step to add some functionality while we prepare to do the Complete Rewrite. It has been largely successful, and preferable to simply running the .spr files as far as I'm concerned. The bug that I describe is avoidable but I would still like to find out what causes it and if it is possible to "fix" it.
Have you attempted to run a VFP form from within a read/@say .spr file?
