IMO, as in computer games, the rules are set by the software, not the original intentions of its authors. If you could approach a message by date, and the calendar was available to any BUTM, than that's permissible. Once the calendar is hidden to BUTMs, the rules are changed.
I wouldn't call typing into the URL box hacking. If an owner of the site feals threatened by possible access via editing an URL, he can always encrypt the license plate for the parts of the site where he wants restricted access. I.e. put a fence, don't call those, who just go through open door, intruders.
