Sounds like the selected area has changed. Would you be printing from a form which has a grid ?

What happens is this. You select an area, preview, when the preview closes your form gets the focus again. If a grid receives the focus it selects its recordsource

try
(1) set the focus to a textbox or so
(2) select the (area)
(3) report form ... preview OR report form .. to printer
