I have a situation where the well known MMCLockingUpInCOMMode problem, under the right sircumstances, seems to be affecting ASP.NET also.

We are currently running W2k, IIS5 and I have some VFP COM EXE's running under WC on the machine. I also have two ASP.NET applications running on the same server which have only recently been deployed for testing and are not yet running in production.

While testing the applications, the symptoms I am seeing are that after the COM EXE's have been invoked enough times to generate the MMCLockingUpInCOMMode problem, the ASP.NET applications will not run. The aspnet_wp proces times out and the following Windows Event log message is generated:

aspnet_wp.exe (PID: 1324) was recycled because it was suspected to be in a deadlocked state. It did not send any responses for pending requests in the last 180 seconds.

The steps I have taken to test this condition are as follows:

1. Run IISRESET to re-initialize IIS
2. Run the ASP.NET applications to verify they work
3. Run IISRESET to re-initialize IIS
4. Invoke the WC VFP.EXE COM servers sufficient times to generate the MMCLockingUpInCOMMode condition
5. Attempt to run the ASP.NET applications. This is unsuccessful and generates the Windows Event Log error above.

Is anyone familiar with this problem and is there a known solution?

Thanks,
Bill
