I just tried it and it worked for me. Are the fields in the tables flagged as "Linked to Field Repository" in the Extended Table Designer? If not, they won't be updated. If they are, then open SDTMETA, find the records for the fields (RECTYPE = "F" and OBJECTNAME = aliased field name), and check REPLINKFLD -- it should contain the unaliased name of the field in the FR the field is linked to. If it doesn't contain the correct field name, the update won't work.
