I am assuming that it is doing it on your PC and that the author does not have frame maker. If that is the case I would ask the author what font they're using in that part of the PowerPoint text, and make sure you have that font as well.

Windows true type fonts also have information describing the font being used. So, if the font does not exist, the software grabs something that it thinks might be pretty close, but may not format exactly right.
