I'm getting curiouser and curiouser about President Bush's definition of "democracy".

Just today is more news that Turkey is feeling, and faces more, retribution for its failure to permit U.S. troops to enter Iraq from their soil.

Now here we had a democracy that actually was following the wishes of its people and they face penalties for doing so!

I can only conclude from this that President Bush is not really serious when he says that he wants to 'spread democracy' throughout the world. What he really seems to mean is that he wants to install puppets throughout the world.

I understand any country being upset if something they ask for - and are even willing to pay handsomely for - is not given. But the juxtaposition of "bringing democracy to Iraq" and penalizing Turkey for acting democratically doesn't fit in my little head.
