Jim;

Reality: Whenever anything changes in a software program the potential of an anomaly exists. VFP is no different.

My experience is this: Software companies have a list of anomalies. They are given priorities. Things like “show stoppers” are resolved and will sometimes turn up after a product is released. Some problems are specific to one or more aspects of technology (ie COM objects, etc.). Not everyone will be affected by an anomaly. Some problems are cosmetic.

We typically try to find “work arounds” to anomalies. If a company sees fit it will release a “patch”, or “service pack” to resolve problems thought to be “significant”. What is “significant” to the user is not necessarily important to the software company.

Nothing is perfect especially software. It is annoying when a feature you may have enjoyed for many versions and years of use upon being given a new version number suddenly does not work. What can you do? That is up to you, but not much.

If you write your own software then you have total control and responsibility for the end result. I tried doing this many years ago but quickly realized my limitations. The mainframe was bigger than me! :)
