Hi Sergey,
Kewl! I was replying with my reasons... which are below. But you just made me think... Why don't we just create a shortcut in each app's directory on the LAN, and change the icon to for each app in each of these shortcuts. And then change our application installation instructions (for the help desk when they install apps), to simply create a shortcut to the shortcut in the particular applicaiton's directory. Or simply drag that shortcut to the desktop. Our instructions currently, are to create a shortcut on the desktop that points the .exe file in the application's directory (this is why I wanted to have the appropriate icon embedded in the .exe). So I think we'll change these procedures to point the desktop shortcut to the "whatever named shortcut" we create in each particular app's directory. Yes! Then we only need to set the icon for that app's shortcut once. I wish I had thought of that a long time ago! I think my habits have just remained from the old FPW2.6 days when we used to use the "addicon.app" utility to add an icon to a .app or .exe and then put that .exe out there and point the users to it.

Anyway, here's what I started to reply back to you, below, clarifying our setup and process a little more. Thanks for your question which prompted me to see the "light"! Take care.

We have many different vfp apps on the LAN for different user groups. Nothing new there. (that's why the launcher is in multiple locations... each app has its own copy of the launcher, and the user only has "rights" to that application's directory on the LAN). However, the way we "install" apps for the user, it to just create an icon on their desktop that points to the "launcher" .exe in the particular app's directory. True, when this shortcut is created, our help desk (who installs the apps), could assign an icon to the shortcut on the user's desktop, but I'd rather eliminate this step for them and have the appropriate icon for that app in the launcher .exe already. Stop!!! This is where I saw the "light"!.... Does this make a little more sense now?

>Maybe I'm missing something but why do you have to copy the same programm to multiple locations? Wouldn't be easier to maintain one copy and use different shortcuts to point to it with parameters specifying what application to run? In any case each shortcut may have it's own icon and you wouldn't have to change icons at all.
