I thought about using a utility such as this, but I want to do it programatically instead, since I don't want to have to go through this manual process of using this utility for each application, every time I update our .exe (VB compiled launcher program, which we copy out to each application's directory). I already have a VFP program that copies the launcher.exe out to each application's folder on the LAN. It would be perfect if I could insert the appropriate icon for each app at that time. My other alternative is to create a shortcut in the app's folder, then have the users' desktop shortcut point to this shortcut in the app's folder. That may be a cleaner way to go.

I really appreciate the help you've given me so far! I don't want to ask you to give anymore of your time. So that is ok if you do not get around to getting your winapi UpdateResource call working. Thanks so much!
