I do not know about speed, but if all users are running the same executable off a server, then the ease of updating that executable diminishes considerably. I prefer installing the EXE/APP files and runtimes on the local machine. I then have a VFP launcher EXE that looks for the updated app on the server. If a new app exists, then the launcher copies it from the server to the workstation, and runs that app on the workstation.
