Hi,
The whole idea behind SQL92 and SQL99 compliant databases is that any frontend application should work with little or no modifications with any SQL92 or SQL99 backend server. If additional functionality were built into VFP to work with backend servers, its should be SQL92 and SQL99 based rather than MSSQL based. This would allow VFP to work with a much larger variety of backend from a windows desktop environment. Consider the following market share of the current players.
Database Market Share
-------- ------------
Oracle 39.4
IBM 33.6
Microsoft 11.1
Sybase 3.6
NCR Corp. 1.7
Other 10.7
The source of market share percentages is based on the March 17, 2003 issue of eWEEK magazine in an article title "Enterprise database deployments lagging".
