Or by stupid network managers (who me?) who install Netware on which some versions of Netware Novell (4.1 and 4.11 specifically) automatically creates volumes with Block Suballocation and Compression turned On. Either of these features will corrupt Oracle files - DON'T USE THEM! (I learned that the hard way!) :o)

*G* Those were the good days... :O) Thank goodness I didn't repeat that mistake! :o)
