>I, Jim Duffy, apologize to the VFP community for caring. I apologize for suggesting they expand their horizon by moving their data to a more secure, more scalable, more stable, and MUCH MORE strategic platform.

>What could I have been thinking? Imagine my embarassment when I realized how foolish I looked trying to actually help others with an open mind learn something new, something that could be an improvement over what they're currently using, something that has a BRIGHT future at MSFT. Could I have been more blind? Just how ignorant could I have been thinking that there might POSSIBLY be a better data storage platform than VFP. I'm sorry for forgetting that nothing is better than VFP at anything. VFP is the greatest development platform in the whole world. There is nothing better now and their NEVER WILL BE. It is the end-all be-all of database software development platforms and as such the community should all expect a huge market-share turn around as it becomes the only viable database development tool on the planet. Yes, the truth shall set me free!!! < g > PUHHHH-LEEEZE!
>
>Obviously my years spent teaching, developing and consulting on VFP projects has been a total waste of time if I could so easily be "swayed" to the dark side by features as unimportant as reliability, scalability, and security. I must truely be a failure if I could be persuaded to using such an incredibly strategic data storage platform from MSFT. A platform that MSFT is plowing millions of dollars into R&D to improve and expand. A platform that has been ranked as one of the fastest transaction-based databases in the world.

Jim;

Learning SQL Server was something I set out to do as it has been of great value to me in my employment as a software developer. The more I learn the more value I have as an employee, and I like the idea of taking home a pay check to support my family.

The more I learn the more I like it. If you sit still in this industry for one or two years you may be in for a suprise. dBase II looked good in January of 1982. Why have I tried to keep up with software tools?

I have never gambled in my life but I take nothing for granted! :)

Look at where the market is and where you think it will go. If you want to have a source of income in this industry sitting back and enjoying the ride is not for everyone. I know too many guys out of work!
