Hi David,
>I would like to set up our application with a middle layer to use either VFP tables or SQL, depending on the customers needs. Is this feasible?
Feasible? Yes. Would I go that route? No. I would use MSDE (SQL Server's royalty-free runtime data engine) for the smaller clients and and the SQL Server Standard Edition for larger clients.
For more info on MSDE go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/techinfo/development/2000/MSDE2000.asp>If so, do you have suggestions as to how this should be accomplished. I am actually hoping that there may be examples available, but perhaps I am to optimistic. Still, I'm hoping to not have to re-invent the wheel if possible.
How is your current app coded? Does it use local views exclusively? You *could* switch over to Remote Views but I prefer to stay away from Remote views.
Hope this helps.
