>As I was reading your post, I was reminded of how much this debate reminds me of audiophiles debating the merits of gear. Amplifier A "sounds" better than amplifier B and its purchase is justified even if the price differential is large. We say that SQL Server is more reliable, scalable and secure, but what does that mean empirically? Are there any benchmarks to compare VFP and SQL Server in terms of performance and scalability? Is there any transaction per minute and cost per transaction data for VFP? Is there a way to quantify the risks of data loss with SQL Server and VFP? The ability to quantify these assertions would allow customers to make more informed choices for either product in light of their priorities.

John, this has to be one of the most salient posts on this entire thread. I am disappointed at the general lack of response.
It would be extremely interesting to see figures that quantify risks / performance / scalability of Visual FoxPro against SQL Server both out of the box and also after taking into account the addition of custom classes designed to facilitate SQL Server kinds of activity. For example, true 24 x 7 operations, which would require
Shared Mode recreation of Indexes, etc.
