Thanks for the great reply. I appreciate the points you make here.

Of course I have one exception. You talk about not having to patch or service pack your DBF's and that there have never been service packs since 5.0. This is not the point I was making. The DBF structure has remained virtially static since 5.0. I agree with thus statement. However, VFP apps are all tied to the runtime which is my point. Even the ODBC driver has been patched. THe SQL Server patches we have installed dont change the data format. Has the format changes yes it has in the last 8 years from 6.5 to 7.0 to 2000 in each case the installer ran and did wwhat it needed to do in no time flat. We have 600GB of data so a datastructure change would have been noticed.

Hopefully this clears up both our points.
