The Windows printing system always prints entire pages. For instance, you can't print half a page in Word or Excel, and stay in the middle of the page - unless you define a custom page size, of half the normal page size for example.
Another option is to print everything in text mode (without using the report writer). This is especially convenient for certain types of printers, like the Epson dot-matrix printers. For other printers, like laser printers, this is not practical.
By the way, printing in text mode on a dot-matrix printer is extremely fast, compared with printing in graphics mode.
