Hi Ken,
>>> With the uniform reporting and awareness this would provide, I don't see how it could do anything but help everyone, including by extension the folks on the good ship Microsoft.
>It would not help Microsoft ship a better product. People should spend time submitting bug reports to Microsoft rather than posting to lists online that are not monitored. The only way to have a bug fixed is to have it within the "internal" Microsoft bug tracking database, not on a web site list.
I don't agree. I've definately got a problem with submitting a bug to MS direclty without listing it here first:
MS bug reporting facility is a black hole. No interaction, No response, No workarround, You don't even know if the BUG report is beeing read.
The advantage of the UT Bug report is:
1. Other developers can track if a BUG has been reported before.
2. Other developers can provide workarrounds.
3. Other developers can help you to find the circumstances under which a BUG does occur and help creating a small program to reproduce the problem.
4. People could see if a BUG is confirmed by anyone of the VFP team in stead of waiting two years to get an outdate BUG list
5. People could get a list of confirmed and non confirmed BUGs or problems and act at forehand.
IMO, with a little adjustment to the rules, or maybe a some UT enhancements or adding a new feature to the UT, this thing could be far and far better than the worthless BUG report facility provided by MS.
Just my € 0.02
