Still doesn't work, I used the URL (which I tested on my local machine). Trying to open a table remotely still causes the local machine to just hang. FYI: the table is a free table. Here's what I coded in the procedure which works locally but not remotely:
use \\myservername\mysharename\folder\tablename.dbf alias cust shared
