Jim,

The amount of saved I/O from the server and brought down the wire needs to be aggregated over all users over some period of time. Since I estimated that cbo took about 1 meg of data, it doesn't take many users or very long before it amounts to megabytes, so my estimates are fairly well founded.

The cachedness of the data in question is totally a guess, that depends on too many variables outside the scope of the discussion.

And any byte not sent down the wire makes a network admin happy, that is until we get infinite pipe size.

>I want to take issue with your "Your network admins will be happier..." and the "load" and "megabytes transferred" stuff.
>1) even if the data inolved is 50 bytes wide (both fields combined) it would be about 1 megabyte;
>2) there is an excellent chance that the data in question, which is in an array, would still be in OS cache and/or VFP buffers/cache even in the event of a REQUERY so the load on the network would be negligible after first use.
