thank you for reply! Your testing leads me to believe that memo handling in SQL SELECT is really unstable, so I will try to avoid this situation at all by creating an intermediate cursor and using REPLACE. The stability is more important for me in this case.
Even SQL Server has many limitations in "text" data type handling, so I suspect that VFP team tried to introduce some functionality in VFP in SQL SELECT area, but this bug was one of the victim in this process.
Overall, I think that VFP 8 is great and is much more stable especially for middle tier MTDLL. Many other tools have even more problems. So, I would not blame VFP team for this bug - there are no ideal tools, we just have to know problems and use stable techniques in our business solutions.
