There is also a free utility, Resource Hacker that can even recompile and replace resources (any type).
Also, GDI+ class in Download section can extract and crop bitmap resources.
But those toolbar graphics look bad on toolbar because bitmaps aren't antialiased (not all look bad, but a lot of them). For example, check Back and Forward buttons from Shell32.dll, resource 204 or 205, compared with buttons captured from screen.

The resources are displayed the in one of the panes, double clicked one of the icons and it brought up the image editor for it and you are a copy/paste/file/SaveAs away from having it.
