Thanks for the tips!

I wasn't aware that newer backup programs could handle "busy" files. Like you, in the past I sometimes had the client reboot the server to free up stray file handles. I'll check with the systems integrator who does their hardware/networking to see what backup software is in use.

Thanks, too, on the goapp.shutdown tip. I'll take that into consideration if I proceed with the timed shutdown code.

Do I understand your implication that a "registered" application has no problem closing with a modal dialog active? If so, what do you mean by "unregistered" in this case? All my users' computers have Codemine registry keys identifying file locations, etc. Is that what you're talking about?
