I found a site that does what I want and a little bit more. It is very involved (
17 pages) for what is, in my opinion, ordinary behaviour. It does seem complete and un-assuming in an otherwise incomplete and assuming world. :) I may take this and create a wrapper control around the grid. :( For anyone interested here is the site.
