not really. They may be played with the same sort of instruments, but they have much different lyrics and melody. While a "cavaquinho" player usually starts off by learning three chords and then they say they're "musicians". On the other hand, there are some guys in Samba playing 7-string guitars kicking butts.
It's the same thing as saying that "Ramones and Rush are pretty close"... no way. They can be some sort of "rock", but they are waaaaaaaaaaaay different.

His comments weren't nothing like: "What a cool sound". Nothing like that. He actually analyzed several pieces of the songs, and compared that with classical music technics. It's amazing.

to be honest, neither do I do nowadays. That was the main point when I started off this thread. They changed their style on the last decade, and I just keep hoping someday they're gonna get back to what they used to be.
