Hi Marcia,

"No, Mark, this is not a work around. Setting the column's ControlSource to a conditional statement makes it ReadOnly. The point is that I do not want the column to be ReadOnly if it is in a data entry grid. Using a drop down list in the ReadOnly column still allows my users to change the data < s >."

No, your is a trick.
You workaround a limit of VFP.

Example:
on my application i uses SQL variant data field.
this field is edited on a VFP column.

If i need 5 controls on the column, 3 readonly and 2 readwrite, and
put a expression on the ControlSource of the column ?
How i can do it ?

Correct behaviour VFP it would have to be:
i can read a expression and write on a field.
If control is readonly i cannot write o a field.
I wait for VFP12 for see this!

"That I cannot answer. I suppose that since it has been documented as being by design, changing it is probably not such a good idea."

The fact that the MS documents the operation, does not mean that this operation is corrected.
The documentation never does not explain why of one chosen.

VFP Team often have of the optimal ideas, but often they are equally not realized in optimal way.
