I am not Mel <g>, but I use CodeMine (CM) and have been following this thread.
Coming from a CodeBook background, I found it a little difficult to learn - only because I had the CodeBook stuff in my head. Actually, I am starting to think CodeMne has a better approach to the data layer and forms. But I still like CodeBook.
If you are just starting with VFP, IMHO, I think you will learn a lot about VFP and a good bit about how it can use OOP business objects. With your present skills, I don't think you'l have a problem.
My only problem I had with the manual/docs and sample app, was that it did not get into using local or remote views. But I am using a combination of CM local views, CM direct table access and the new adapter class with CodeMine and have no difficulties.
All in all, even you didn't like the framework you still get lots of neat gadgets with the product. <g>
