See CursorFill method for both issues. There is a parameter to specify use of your CursorSchema and one for no data. If you download and use my CursorAdapter VCX Builder, your CAs will have properties for these that will be used in the CursorFill method. The builder is free, has all source code and has extensive comments at the top of the PRG file on how to use it, gotchas, etc.
