Thanks for the recommentation John. For some unknown reason I was unable to see the replies under Steve's original post so I thought the question was unanswered and I didn't see any of the replies. I'm very obviously way out-of-date regarding the status of NTFS support - possibly because RH (which is my distro of choice) ships without NTFS support. I'll very definitely look into it.
