Another alternative is to use a 1-dimensional array, and convert the subscript from a 3-dimensional to a 1-dimensional array. Note that in this case you still have the other limitation of VFP arrays: a maximum of 65,000 elements. My array class, "LargeArray", overcomes both limitations (the number of dimensions, and the number of elements).
