I had a very similar issue and I think Fred solved it for me that time.

I think what is happening is vfp thinks the screen is closable=.t. therefore it does nothing when you issue _screen.closable=.t.
Instead try:

_screen.closable=.f.
_screen.closable=.t.

setting it to false first.
