They make alot of sense. Don't let the internet and "webinars" desensitize the need for real human interaction. Yes there is a level of "good times" at these conferences, but there is something about personal networking with your peers and friends that is rejuvenating. Dialogues and group discussions at a restaurant, bar, hotel lobby, corridors, conf rooms, etc., can be more enlightening than anything you can get from minimally- or non-interactive media.
