I won't take issue with anything you've said as regards the information available from MS. I think they could be more clear on what is/isn't included with MSDE and the impact that has on development and support, but that's about it.
I was more answering (and I was NOT at all clear on this, I realize) to the 'DBFs are terrible and MSDE is the only way to go' sales pitch presented at DevTeach (repeated before and since) by Jim Duffy. That is where there was lots of (intended) deception.
