What would you say to adding a button to the Message Compose form, linking to a script as found in message #801368 (including Steve's addition, of course)?

A ToolTip might include a warning that Word needs to be correctly installed in order to use the feature. Then, in the user preferences for posting messages, you could make it an option to display the button or not.
