Thanks Marica this is working great. Now another question. What if I want to use this on a Numeric (actually Double) field? The whole idea had come up in my head was becuase there is a double field containing repeated values.

You have to write some code to convert the nbumeric values to character strings, make some adjustments, and then do the compariason.

WHat I mean by "make some adjustments" is that you will have to PADL() the search string and have the correct index on the field in the table, otherwise you will never find it.
