To answer the question "Why wouldn't a general improvement of the current economic situation result in a better situation for VFP developers?"....

For at least the last couple years every recruiter I have talked to tells me that the vast majority of their hiring of VFP folks is to assist in a converstion of a VFP app to something else.

These are VFP jobs that are lost forever.
