>It could be worse. About 10 years ago, an Italian company named Olivetti had tracking devices on their employee badges. They could tell where their employees were anyplace in the building except the bathrooms.

I wouldn't be too smug about that situation, Craig, because I'd bet that such is now STANDARD PROCEDURE in companies where "need to know" room-to-room security is practised.

These things are just snuck in and there's a good chance that most employees don't even know.

>>Friend of mine works at a waste management company in Hartford, CT. They just moved into a new building and she says that there are camaras at every corner looking down each hallway and others mounted in the ceiling looking into the cubicles. They also have heavy restrictions on computer use. The thing that really got me was that she is required to have a drink container that matches the decor of her office. Not one that just looks nice, but literally one that is made to match her decor. The first one is free, but she must buy any others. This company basically is a broker between those that create trash and those that carry it away and my friend is in the accounts receivable/payable area. No actual money or proprietary technology involved. Seems a bit excessive to me. She thinks that the owner of the company, who just sold 49% to some NYC investors, is trying to impress and perhaps even compensating for some shortcomings, but that's her opinion. <s> I was just curious what others
